Round 3: Day 2

So, Demps was up early this morning. Poor Daddy.
The report was a positive one, praise God.
Sawyer and I got to CHOC close to 11am. We met Daddy and Dempsey in the playroom where Demps was playing Connect 4 with Princess Jasmine (from Aladdin). Then some wii, some air hockey with Daddy and then a new friend named Hunter. Hunter is in treatment for a brain tumor (post surgery). Sweet 6 1/2 yr old boy! I know he would want me to say the 1/2 part... you know, it matters to these kiddos.
Back to the room for lunch.
Then Dempsey passed out. For like 3 hours passed out. I personally think his body is catching up from being without food for 20 hours (Mon-Tues) because of his lumbar puncture procedure and then sleeping off anesthesia so long.
He's awake now and SLOWLY eating some quesadilla and drinking his Aloe Vera Plus juice. All that, of course, while watching Leap Frog videos.
I'm hoping that he gets some energy so we can go visit with our friend Ella across the hall. She's 5 too and is dealing with Ewings Sarcoma. She's a pint-sized powerhouse though. Please keep Ella, and all the patients here, in your prayers.

I'll keep you posted. If you're on social media, Facebook and Instagram often have more photos floating around. I will try to get a photo post up tonight.

Round 3: Day 1

This will probably be shorter than I would like... I need to get to bed.

My AMAZING husband packed for this stay ALL BY HIMSELF. He loaded up the gear and the boys into the van this morning and drove off, leaving me to finish sleeping off a horrendous migraine that descended upon me yesterday afternoon. Now, I know you don't understand what a HUGE deal this is... so, just accept it when I tell you that you should elevate my husband to the level of Saint.

Because of that first paragraph, though... there is guilt hanging off of me like honey off a bear's paw. I know that I had NO control over that stupid migraine. I know I carry my weight in this marriage too. I know my boys know I love them even if I am not physically present. BUT... there is always a "but" with a woman... I WASN'T THERE. I was laid up in bed, totally void of any personal power, while someone else ran the ship. Therein lies the real issue, aye? Control issues. A post for another day.

Regardless of my lack of presence, my boys handled themselves marvelously. They got all admitted, up to our room, unpacked, settled in nicely, Dempsey was accessed, his hydration started, and I managed to get there before transport wheeled him down to the 3rd floor (surgical ward) for yet another lumbar puncture.

Can we pause here a minute? Friends, Dempsey has had at least a dozen pokes into his spine. This is not okay. Don't tell me it will be fine... damn right it will be fine! We're making sure it will be fine. The fact that we have to make sure of that is what's wrong here. Granted, the woman who has performed most of these is a LP wizard and we love and appreciate her tender care of our baby. Okay, moving on...

With Dempsey having a procedure, he was not able to eat after 4-5 a.m. today. *bug-eyed-emoji-here* No food. No drink. However, I do believe he was hooked up to hydration because he would be getting high-dose methatrexate and that requires LOADS of IV fluids. He received anesthesia and then slept for hours. Now, I love that he sleeps off his anesthesia! It just means that it takes that much longer to get sustinance in him which then throws the whole day out of whack. No matter. He woke up happy and having to pee. Bonus. He at and ate. Drank his Aloe Vera Plus like a champ. And proceeded to play wii. We were able to make it to Turtle Talk at 5:30pm and squeak back up to the 5th floor (HEM/ONC) just in time for Emily and Kaylie to hang his chemo infusions.

While Demps was sleeping off his anesthesia hangover, Sawyer and I went to Turtle Talk and then played with Brian and some new interns at Seacrest Studios (2nd floor- the fun floor). Sawyer was interviewed by Brian and it was aired, LIVE, throughout the hospital TVs on channel 32, I think. When it started I text Jake to turn on the TV, so he got to witness it as well. Jake said Dempsey heard Sawyer's voice, looked up, and then went back to sleep. *heart*

Sawyer and Jake had gone for their father-son movie night while Dempsey was still sleeping so he was sad to be without them. He managed and was super happy when Daddy came back to do the standard nighttime sleepover. Precious boys.

Sawyer is staying with my parents, praise God. We are so thankful that they are close and able to help out as much as they do. A pure blessing. I will pick him up in the morning and take him back down to CHOC for some time with brother. Love it.

I'm still recovering from that blasted migraine. What a total downer. My body is messed up right now. Hoping that another night of rest is all it requires to kick this thing's bootay.

OH! I created a Facebook page just for Dempsey! You can search Team Dempsey, Team Dempsey Kenagy or cheat and click HERE. Please, if you have social media, share Team Dempsey (Kenagy) with everyone!! We need all the prayer support we can get.
